This tool provides principles for life from the book of Proverbs for use in a family or school or other study setting. The material is not designed to be taught at one time as a single lesson. It is best to teach and discuss one or two principles each day.

(1) Someone should read the verses that go with a principle. If there are several verses, the parent/teacher may choose which to use.

(2) The parent/teacher should make sure that the listeners understand the words and statements of the verses.

(3) The parent/teacher can then share the principle that is based on the verse.

(4) The parent/teacher and others could describe life situations where the principle applies.

The fear of God is an important concept in the book of Proverbs. To properly fear God means to know three things: who he is, that we must obey him, and that we will be judged for disobedience.

Wisdom is a central theme in Proverbs. To have wisdom is to accept and follow God’s perspectives and values. God sees things as they truly are, so we are wise when we believe what God says and follow his directions.

Parents and teachers should commit personally to follow the principles from Proverbs. They should demonstrate the practice of the principles in their lives. They should teach the principles to their children and students and look for ways to apply the principles in life situations.
